A documentary on the well-known figurehead of Abidi Pharmaceutical Company has been put in the works.

A documentary on the well-known figurehead of Abidi Pharmaceutical Company has been put in the works.

Abidi commissioned film director Seyed Vahid Hosseini to make the documentary about the founder of the company, which is based in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

“I am currently researching on the life and works of Gholam Ali Abidi, who established the first pharmaceutical laboratory in Iran. Research on the work will be completed in a month’s time after which I will start the shooting,” Hosseini said.

Abidi (1920-2004) started Iran’s first domestic pharmaceutical firm to produce medicines. The company went on to produce cosmetic and hygienic products.

“Interviews will be among the first shots to be taken. I’m going to interview a number of people who knew Dr. Abidi and were in contact with him. Other parts of the documentary will be about his laboratories,” Hosseini added.

The doctor’s pharmaceutical laboratory was established at Amin Hozour junction in Tehran in 1946.

In 1958, it received license for production of vermicide tablets. In the same year, the laboratory produced its first oral syrup for cough treatment.

“I may reconstruct some parts of his life … I’m looking through an archive of his photos and other documented sources,” Hosseini concluded.

In 2001, Abidi Pharmaceutical Company was declared a reference laboratory for quality control by the Health Ministry.
